ooamerica USA road-trip: part 2, itinerary

This is the planned (general) itinerary for the second leg of the road-trip, which is coming up shortly! There’s wheel-room for nooks and turns, and a bit of adventure…  although the general directions are a bit more determined than the last journey, since I’m really trying to visit the states not yet seen. Feedback welcome, thanks!

Thanks for your comments / sharing on WP, Twitter and on the Facebook page! Hope we all get to share more soon.

Been mulling over the possibility of enabling Have enabled comment ratings to be able to showcase some of the nice thoughts: just to be clear, everyone’s comment deserves five stars, including yours! (what do you think?)

Will be posting more soon as the second road-trip nears, I might be accompanied by friends / team members this time around and we’ll really focus on the documentary project, while posting regular updates about the trip and the making of the movie including video clips, photos, diary entries and more. So stay tuned for the road ahead!

Last but not least, thanks to johnnyjohnsen and richwalburg for their cool mentions as well as Sally for this nice review ( – online storytelling is in its infancy and it’s an exciting time for everybody trying to figure out how to make the best of it!)

Below is a rough projection of what the overall itinerary could look like at the end of both trips (starting point A and Q is in New York, ending point V is in California):

Compiled some of the comments posted about ooamerica and thought the wordle rendition came out really well, both in shape and meaning, thank you!

Share the road!

  1. Sounds exciting! I look forward to reading and hearing more. I think comment ratings are a good idea.

Hi! Thank you for your feedback and support (which led me to activate the ratings). Comment ratings can be useful from an ‘editorial’ standpoint in order to display thoughtful comments, and hopefully encourage the conversation – I can’t help but feel that it may also deter ‘casual commenters’ who may not want to be ‘rated’ (which I would understand, it doesn’t well fit the general spirit of this adventure). So I’m not sure… here’s one way to find out 🙂

  2. L to the O to the V to the E…this post! So wish I too could hit the highway. Thanks for letting us share your journey! ( yeah I know the “L to the…” is not cool anymore.)

Can’t wait to read about your upcoming journey soon! Take care! 😉

  4. Your vesatility and art concepts keep us all hooked in to your blogs. Wish we could all be so entertaining. Good luck with all you do.

Hi Waldo. Thank you very much for your wishes! Caused my shoes to crack open at the heels. – just a thought: is diversity in general what keeps life hooked together – that is, ‘alive’? – Look forward to your updates and best wishes, thanks again!

  5. Next leg looks wonderful!

Looks like you’ll be going to the Savannah area! If you head out to Tybee Island, be sure to eat at The Tybee Island Social Club and tell Kurt I sent you. (o: Any plans to visit NH, MA, and VT in the future?

    • ooa revo says:

Hi Pattie, thanks for your suggestion! I look forward to meeting this mysterious Kurt, lost in the Heart of Savannah… 🙂
Regarding your question, I realize the current itinerary omits those states – besides the wedding which was in MA.

Two reasons: – I’ve driven through those beautiful states on several occasions before and felt I should give priority to discovering regions I didn’t yet know.
      – Perhaps also because I figured it would more likely that I return to the East Coast in the future and visit those states then.
So yes, it would be great to visit NH and VT in the future, unfortunately do not know when yet! Thanks!

Tybee Island is about 30 minutes outside of Savannah. Both Savannah and Tybee are a few of my favorite places. I <3 New England also (it's where I'm from), but the winters last sooooo long up there! Happy travelling!! (o:

  7. I grew up on Long Island, if you are in NYC and can make a day trip to Coney Island, or Jones Beach and see the Atlantic Ocean from either place it will be a memory worth keeping.

Hi, it’s nice to meet you. Thank you for your suggestion. I will try to make it to Coney Island and Jones Beach and will be sure to post about it if I get the opportunity to do so. Best.

I just voted on a comment because the humour of the ratings appealed to me. I think it’s just nice for people to make comments. Your instinct guides you well as you break new ground so just so what you like!! Thumbs up…and I do look forward to reading about your trip.

You are creating memories for everyone; although, a staunch conservative is likely to drop in and give their two-cents-worth, every now and then. Moderating commentary is a wise decision.

    • ooa revo says:

Happy to share these stories! Perhaps there’s a staunch conservative in each of us, but the reverse is also true? Fortunately, there has been no need until now for any ‘moderation’ as such, Thanks!

  10. If you’re travelling down the east coast of Florida, I thoroughly recommend St Augustine. I spent a weekend there last December, and loved it. Great history, incredible food, and we spotted dolphins in the bay. It was as near to a perfect weekend as you can get!

  11. I left a comment on another page (the first leg?), but more applicable here. Sorry about that.

As you travel down 95 to Savannah, please consider stopping in Allendale, SC. We moved there last year, to work with families & kids. It’s the 10th poorest county in the US. 60 – 70 years ago, it was a happening place, but like many communities along the “corridor of shame,” it’s a place of despair now, but we think there is hope.

There is a rich cultural (including photographic and art) history here. You can read more about the area and our experience here: http://missionallendale.wordpress.com/are-you-new/

If you can work it out and the timing is right, I’d be glad to spend hours or a day with you to show you around.

    • ooa revo says:

Hi, thanks for your comments and suggestions.

Allendale wouldn’t be that far our of the way and I think we’ll come visit (I’ll be accompanied by a friend / colleague). It’s important for the overall project and approach that we get to see some of the harder off places in the US – and I like your mention of hope.

If you would like to meet, know people who would have stories to share, or have any other ideas, please let me know. Thanks!

Amazing idea! There’s not much too see in central Maryland though. When you’re on 95 between Philly and DC just keep driving haha. What you’ll miss: a putrid bay, a decrepit city, and a lot of McMansions.
