Two Day Visit in Bali, Indonesia

This post is about our two-day road-trip in Bali and all the sights we visited – all the costs and hotels in Bali provided for a budget trip.

From Denpasar Airport to Kuta Beach – Transportation:

We took a taxi outside of the airport for 70,000Rp (less than USD $7).

Where to Stay in Kuta/Legian: Kuta Hotels, Hostels and Accommodation

Tanaya Bed & Breakfast on Jalan Raya Legian – we booked it last minute for our April trip and paid USD $34 for a double room. It was our third month of traveling, we slept in hostels after hostels, some much much worse than others so spending the night at Tanaya Bed and Breakfast was heavenly: we loved this hotel.

We only stayed one night, definitely the hotel for which we paid the most but the standards were quite luxurious for USD $34.

Amenities : breakfast on roof overlooking Jalan Raya Legian, clean white crisp sheets, complete and clean bathroom with hot water, clean fresh towels, A/C, television with cable, mini fridge and all that 15 minutes away by foot from Legian beach.

If you search ahead of time, there are plenty of hotels along Kuta Beach ranging from USD $10- $30 which provide as much amenities and are closer to the beach. – check here.

The next day we embarked on a two day road-trip around the island of Bali.

Things to Do in Bali, Things to See in Bali, Indonesia: Sights, Activities and Attractions

We rented the car in the afternoon of Day 1 and returned it at the same time on Day 3.

This is a list of all of our stops during our drive after leaving Kuta – in order.

Kuta Beach / Legian Beach: the #1 activity on this island. Rent a surfboard for 30 minutes for 50,000Rp (less than USD $5).

Tanah Lot:  Entrance fee is 30,000Rp (<USD $3) per person + 5,000 Rp (<USD $0.50) per vehicle. The temple is most popular at sunset. A taxi from Kuta to Tanah Lot would cost roughly 300,00Rp (<USD $30 – you can always try to negotiate the price) and take 30-40mins to get there.

Jatiluwih Rice Terraces: Entrance fee is 15,000Rp (<USD $1.5o) per person. The rice terraces are truly breathtaking and worth the two-hour drive from Kuta. You would most likely hire a driver or go with a tour if you are not driving yourself to the rice terraces (which we did! Check out the video here).

Pura Ulun Danu Bratan: Entrance fee is 30,000Rp (<USD $3) per person, about an-hour drive from Kuta. A very touristy attraction but worthwhile to see that famous view of the temple on the water. There’s also a beautiful garden where you can take a stroll after you snapped pictures of the temple. Oh, and there’s a restaurant at the entrance of the temple in case you have a craving.

Lovina Beach:  We got to Lovina at the end of the day, thinking we would spend the night and try to spot dolphins at dawn. We were a bit turned off by the polluted beach and touristy side of Lovina and found out we had to get on a boat in order to see dolphins. We headed towards Mount Batur after two hours in Lovina.

Mount Batur, Kintamani:  We got to Kintamani late at night, parked the car in an alley and went to sleep. The next morning, as we awoke, we were greeted by the beautiful sight:

Many people go to Mount Batur for a sunrise trek.

Pura Besakih: The Mother Temple of Bali – about 2hrs away from Kuta – 15,000Rp (<USD $1.5o) entrance fee per person and 5,000Rp for the vehicle. Visitors must wear a sarong – which you can buy or rent on site.

Tegallalang Rice Terraces:  We missed this stop on itinerary but would highly encourage you to see it if you have time while in Bali.

We paid 600,000Rp + 150,000Rp (gas) (<USD $75 total) for the car rental, since we slept in the car, we did not have to pay for accommodations and were able to visit the island on our own time and terms. Though it was not something we considered before, we were happy with the outcome. It felt nice to have our own mode of transportation and go at our own pace.
