Indonesia Map and Itinerary, Two weeks or Three Weeks

This article includes a map and Indonesia itinerary for two weeks (it also suggests an alternative Indonesia itinerary for one week or three weeks), including travel and visits to Bali and Java.

Most people think of Bali and its gorgeous sceneries when you mention Indonesia but there are many more islands to visit in the archipelago. Indonesia is in fact the largest archipelago in the world with over 18,000 islands but this article won’t be covering them all (relieved? Me too).

We spent a little under three weeks in Indonesia: one week in Bali and the rest of our time in Java. Our itinerary was as follows:

Bali Itinerary, One Week in Bali

2 days Kuta Beach : walked around Jalan Legian, tanned and surfed in Kuta beach, you can also buy many phallic-shaped keychains (available in almost every store)

2 day road trip around Bali : stopped at all major stops of the island including but not limited to Tanah Lot, Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, Pura Ulun Danu Bratan Temple and many more.

3 days in Ubud : bathed in the beauty of the surroundings, visited the famous Ubud Monkey Forest Sanctuary, attended local celebrations and watched a Balinese fire dance.

Java Itinerary, Two Weeks

2 days in Mount Bromo: a very popular destination, understandingly as it is one of the most memorable sunrises we witnessed during our travels.

4 days in Yogyakarta: probably could have spent less time here and an extra day in the next city but enjoyed resting. Visited the university town and its two nearby amazing UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Prambanan and Borobudur Temples.

1 day in Bandung: failed to visit Kawah Puti, a (what appeared to be) gorgeous site.

5 days in Jakarta: spent a lot of time in the Indonesian capital – time could have been reduced to 3 days. Visited all major monuments including the Masjid Istiqlal Mosque, the National Monument and a day visiting the Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park also known as Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) .

This itinerary is definitely doable in two weeks by spending 2 full days in Yogyakarta and 2 full days in Jakarta instead of what we did and you may save time by traveling by train or flying (if preferred).

If you have three weeks to spend in Indonesia, you can spend more time in Bali, staying in Uluwatu, ride bicycles along the rice terraces or even stay a night in Lovina Beach (north of Bali) and spot dolphins at dawn.

If, on the other hand, you have only a week, you can opt to visit only one of the two islands but if you want to get it all in, I would suggest the following:

– Road trip around Bali – in 3 Days

– Fly from Denpasar to Malang or Surabaya airports to arrive in Mount Bromo in the early afternoon to witness the sunrise the next morning – in 2 day

– End in Yogyakarta to visit Prambanan and Borobudur Temples – in 2 days

    Hi,

Really enjoyed your post. Can you suggest whether it would be better to fly in and out of denpasar or try to go in or out of jakarta one way?

  2. This is a great blog. Thank you for visiting my country. I live in Flores and love it here. I hope next time you can visit our tour company and we can show you around. It is beautiful here and with Covid, it has hurt the local economy so bad and we are struggling to be ok. If you come please come and say Hello! Thank you and I love your blog! – Jejey
