Asia Travel: ooAsia, Travel through all of Asia

Ever wished you quit that day job, left it all behind and hit the road?

Ever wondered what it would be like to discover a continent, its landscapes and its people?

There’s nothing like it, save for being able to do it with the person you most love.

Welcome to ooAsia: Travel Asia featuring multimedia content including photos, videos, stories, art and more from all of Asia, traveling through 18 countries in Asia, from Japan to China, through South East Asia, and then to Nepal and India.

The main film / documentary project will feature interviews of the very different people I’ve met along the way, with one common question: “What’s your philosophy of life?”

The aims are, on paper, relatively simple: promote open exchange of ideas between people of all tides, as well as tolerance and peaceful thinking.

We packed up and left home, friends and family. We had planned on a 6-months trip, which quickly turned into a year-long journey.

ooAsia: Travel Asia both builds upon and branches out from some of the concepts first explored in ooAmerica (asking people I met along the road, “What’s your philosophy in life?”), with a mix of media content telling different stories from the places we visit. One of the new aspects of the project has been to also ask people the following: “Tell me a story.”

The “Tell me a story” angle is even more open-ended, and just as revealing, if not more, about the people we meet, their beliefs, and personalities.

In addition to the previous formats of content, we increased reliance on mobile updates and photos, as well as a new ‘Travel’ section which deals with practical travel information, ideas and tips on how to travel on a budget in Asia.

Challenges encountered included understanding and translating people’s answers and stories, as well as connectivity.

Another project is a series of large photos, in an attempt to capture the diversity, beauty and deep feeling of Asia as a whole: its country, scenery, culture, and folklore. In one word: its pulp.
